Imagine a place so close to nature that it is covered with trees, rocks and water everywhere? What a paradise it would be. Well I found this gem of a place during my stay at my bff Mariya’s home at Thrissur. This is located at about 12 kms from the town of Thrissur in the state of Kerala, near a place called Chemboothra, a few kilometers away from Kerala Agricultural University Campus, Mannuthy, Thrissur.
We went there in about mid August during heavy rain and hence we had enough water to immerse ourselves in. Reaching there was a bit of a task because we had no private vehicle with us and we used normal private bus for transportation to Chemboothra bus stop. From there we bought few chips and a bottle of fresh water though the place we were about to visit couldn’t have given us clearer water. Then we took a local auto rickshaw ride to the exact location. It is somewhere around a hilltop. We had to go hiking for the waterfalls a bit.
Caution: Pattathipaara is an entry restricted forest area of multi-level falls over a rock face, with a swimming area below, accessed by a short forest trek. It is a beautiful place and I assure you that you would instantly fall in love with this gem of a location.
Me and my bestie Mariya explored everything we could over there. Since we visited the spot during a weekday, there wasn’t much crowd. We changed our outfits into comfy ones and started playing with the waters. We roamed around here and there to find few groups mostly of young men enjoying their day under the waterfalls. Trust me, if you haven’t sat under a waterfall, you gotta tick that off the list next time. It so incredibly healing!!! I was only told that nature can provide you with peace of mind but this place just proved it right.
We sat beside a small brook with our feet under the water. Mariya and I talked about everything under the sun; our future, past, regrets, lessons learnt, current resolutions and everything. And we had Beatles by our side. Thanks to Spotify we played Blackbird and Yesterday and Julia and sat there in the calm silence, half immersed in water. It felt so refreshing you know. I definitely decided that I’m going to save this location as my get away spot whenever life hits me bad. And man, I swear this place got some charm on me, or maybe it cast its beautiful spell that I make up reasons to come to Pattathipaara and take my time off.

Few things to keep in mind if you are planning to visit the place are:
1. Always carry water and some light snacks with you. Also carry a bag so that you can take the waste away home and ensure you don’t litter this gorgeous work of nature.

2. Use sunscreen and carry it with you. Make sure to apply it once in a while as the sun can get very intolerable especially around the noon.

3. Make sure your phone has enough battery life left. There are no places at Pattathipaara where you can charge your phone. Carry that damn power bank with you.
4. Wear water friendly sandals to the place. You’re going to ruin your shoes if you wear them to the water. And watch out, some areas are very slippery.

5. One very very important thing: Patathipaara is a reserved forest area. Entry is usually restricted and you can find a warning board at the entrance about the consequences of being caught by the forest officers. Nothing to worry about, a lot of people visit the place and it’s a very safe place to spend your day and soothen your soul but make sure you never pick anything up from there in your bag. Even if by a very less probably that you’re caught by the officers, they must not find you with forest property in your hands. Now that’s a different game.
6. Text your friend or let someone know you’re going to high range. Sometimes phone calls do not get connected through.

7. That’s it have loads of fun!!! Tight hugs 🤗
